Regarding Certification

In Salsa there is currently no International Governing Body that accepts and/or recognises any specific certificate.

Please contact me if you have any questions about that.

I have several dance cerfiticates from professional schools in the world: London Contemoprary Dance School, Master from Laban Center and BA from PUC. I have also taught a BTEC-Performing Arts School which students need to complete 3 years course to gain a certification. This is after they have gained NVQ Certificate which is a very basic level.

In order to be a Salsa Instructor:

  • You need excellent training: lead-follow.
  • Syllabus to follow up as a lesson plan.
  • Pratical experience.
  • Instruction from a highly experienced teacher/dancer ideally with a professional dance training preferably. ( I do recognise a difference in tutors from the othe ones with a professional training to the ones with none)
  • Dedication, practice and will.
  • Discipline
  • Teaching is a different skill to dancing. They complement each other.

After your training: you are required to have insurance liability and CRB check.

Practical Salsa Experience

You are required to have at least 1 year of dancing salsa - any styles, to do your teacher's training.

Gain experience:

After the training you are requested to do 10 hours of practice before you gain your certificate.

You may assist teaching group lessons and also one to one.

So you will gain EXPERIENCE which is essential for your teaching..

You will also be invited in taking part and assist in any Salsa-Tropical Party/Corporate Events and parties if you are in London.

When you complete the Course successfully we may invite you to integrate Salsa-Tropical Team of teachers for our Events and Clubs.

We are looking for teachers to take part of Salsa-Tropical Team

Cost: please contact Maria Palmieri

Maria Palmieri has been teaching dance since 1994, including being in charge for 3 years of of a BTEC - Performing Arts Course, at Croydon College also taught at The City Lit and several other Adult Education in Brazil, New York and London.

Recently I just read this quote from a Professional Coach and Educator, Chris Wesley:

"Learn Fast - Stay Stupid"

This training is not a speed training at all. In order to become an acomplished teacher it will require your effort, time, dedication and focus to acquire this new skill.

Testimonials

Testimonials: October 2011

I think that Salsa-Tropical's Teacher Training Course is excellently designed to help you make the difficult transition from salsa dancer to teacher.

The course combines practical training with written tasks, both of which I found to be extremely beneficial to my learning.

The private tuition with Maria allowed me to develop my technique as a dancer as well as learn how to vocalise and demonstrate my knowledge to others. The course also provides a vast amount of information on the history of salsa dancing, music and Latin culture which is not only interesting but provides you with essential background knowledge to help enrich your classes.

The best thing about the programme for me, was being given the opportunity to train over a long period of time with Maria and the rest of the Salsa Tropical team, assisting with teaching the classes, until I felt confident enough to teach a class myself.

I finished the course and have continued to work with Salsa Tropical for the past 2 years. Maria has not only provided me with the essential skills needed to structure and teach classes, but she has also become a close friend who has helped me learn how to run my own business as well as being a constant source of advice, guidance and support.

I thoroughly enjoyed the whole learning process and would definitely recommend doing the teacher training course with SalsaTropical.

Thank you Maria!

When I think of Salsa-Tropical I can feel a big smile on my face. So many great experiences and so many lovely people...

In my opinion the teacher training Maria offers is excellent, she is more than just a teacher giving you lots of information. She is there for you as a friend and to share with you her experiences and knowledge of Salsa-Tropical as a Higly Professional Company.

Maria cares about everything; being up-to-date with the music, with the techniques, what's going on around the world, what is good for the teachers, the clients, the business. Honestly, the experience is quite a pleasant journey that can become quite long depending on your interests.

I worked with Salsa-Tropical for 4 years after I finished my training and never got tired of it!

I moved abroad. All I learnt with Salsa-Tropical has stayed with me over the years as a strong foundation for many Latin rhythms and for teaching, in general, any kind of dance or body movement.

Do not hesitate to have the experience yourself.

October 2009

I whole-heartedly recommend completing a teacher training course with Maria Palmieri and Salsa-Tropical. The syllabus was totally thorough and comprehensive; the style absolutely professional; the structure helpfully flexible, and the process was fun throughout.

I loved how the range of written assignments made me think about, research and analyse salsa and salsa performing in a different way. The practical assignments increased my dancing experience, both leading and following, and added new dimensions and insights to my ever increasing knowledge. Plus, the wealth of CDs and DVDs I received on the course were a hugely important and helpful resource.

Maria is patient, professional, very knowledgeable and experienced, and has been a great teacher, manager and friend to me. I have had the wonderful experience of teaching on behalf of Salsa-Tropical, of attending and assisting at ladies styling and partner workshops, and of learning directly from Maria and witnessing her effortless and graceful style. As I took almost a full year to complete the course, I had the opportunity to really increase both my dancing and teaching: knowledge, experience and confidence, and I learnt a lot from the feedback that I received along the way. I believe that becoming a truly great teacher takes time, effort, constant self-evaluation and unshakable passion for your subject. I am now teaching several times a week and am very proud of my teacher training qualification with Salsa-Tropical.

Thank you Maria!!

July 2007

Teacher training with Maria Palmieri of Salsa-Tropical was a great experience. I have danced for many years and have always wanted to teach.

The Salsa-Tropical training appealed to me as it seemed more comprehensive than other training programs which are on offer in London, such as “learn to teach in one weekend” I actually think that is impossible!

I valued the one to one time I spent with Maria, but Maria also offers invaluable practical experience which you just can’t do with out. Maria was so helpful and patient with me over the last few months and always invited me to participate in her classes and workshops or any events she was running.

All this exposure to see what she does as a professional was so useful and also inspiring. Maria is friendly, fun and always open to questions. I felt very comfortable around Maria from the beginning and her approachable nature is conducive to a good learning experience for her students. You need to feel comfortable and not silly to ask questions as a student and Maria was great like this.

Also, she is not scared to give you feedback, good or bad, but this is the only way to learn.

I very much value Maria’s opinion and I have a lot of respect for her as a business woman, dancer, teacher and now a friend.

February 2007

I chose Salsa -Tropical to do teacher training as Maria was able to provide a flexible and personal package.

Being a qualified and experienced teacher in other disciplines, I needed Maria to appreciate my background and to provide the specific tuition needed to learn to teach salsa and to be able to transfer my skills to this style.

Maria was professional, knowledgeable and great fun to work with!

I had the opportunity to work with her on a one-to-one basis as well as support teach with some of her private students.

At the end of my intensive four-day course I came away inspired and equipped with all basics necessary to practice on my own students.

I was also armed with a huge resource bank of DVD's, reference material and CDs in a wide range of Latin music styles.

I now have a wonderful and talented contact in London with whom I can continue my training - and Maria is a superb help line!

I have no hesitation in recommending both Maria and Salsa Tropical to you."

Maria's teacher training package was absolutely first class -- it was extremely thorough, informative and very detailed.

She is an excellent teacher -- very knowledgeable, experienced and great fun to work with.

She is patient, creative and flexible and I really enjoyed myself.

The DVD's and written notes included in the package are brilliant as well. All in all its a wonderful teacher training program that I recommend to anyone.

Sincerely,

Tarushka Panjwani
