Danielle: Salsa CV
BiographyDani started dancing from a young age in Cyprus, and was instantly hooked! With a solid background in modern, jazz, street and tap, she spent 8 years dancing with choreographer Deborah Melkis, performing in live shows, both in the theatre and at promotional events. In 2004 she took part in the show “For the Love of God” with the Deborah Melkis Dance Company. During this time she also organised, choreographed and ran children´s dance classes. In 2005, Dani moved to Manchester to study the biological sciences. She joined the university´s dance society where she was introduced to the latin and ballroom dances, and very quickly became addicted to salsa! She became a regular in the salsa clubs of Manchester and spent 3 years attending a variety of classes and salsa congresses across the UK, as well as heading to Cuba for a month long salsa course in the summer of 2007. Between 2007 and 2008 she joined a dance troupe with 4 other female dancers, performing in salsa, reggaetón and other latin dances in Manchester. After university, Dani decided to head to Cuba once again to study both Spanish and Cuban dance. She spent 6 months working alongside the dancers of “Teatro América” in Havana, practising salsa, son, rumba, cha cha cha, mambo and a variety of other dances. On returning from Cuba, she set up a partnership called “Los Callejeros”, focusing on Cuban salsa with the urban flavours of street dance and reggaetón. She taught classes and performed at Lime Bar in the centre of Manchester, as well as in various gyms. |
