Kamau's Salsa CV

I started dancing salsa in 2000 and I still get a buzz out of it. Salsa is a great way to have fun and an excellent way to have healthy and fun exercise; it is also great for meeting and making new friends and acquaintances as well as visiting new places.

I have been teaching mainly beginner level for over 5 years and I find this gives me the most pleasure when students finally get the basic footwork and then go on to find and create their owe style of dancing that makes all of us unique.

Over the last 2 years I have also taught level 2 and 3 i.e. improvers / intermediate levels.

I have attended classes and workshops run by (in no particular order of preference) some of the best renowned Salsa teachers in the UK which include Robert Charlemagne, Fire, Nelson Batista, Marchant Birch, Leon Rose, Susana Montero and Super Mario, to name but a few.

In October 2006 I successfully completed the Salsa Teachers Training course organised by Orod and Dessy of Hampstead School of Latin Dance. www.cubandance.com

I have also had one to one training with Robert Charlemagne of Salsa Nation, which helped me improve on my teaching techniques and gain a better understanding of musical timing for salsa. www.salsanation.co.uk

More recently I have been working with the extremely talented and energetic Maria Palmieri of Salsa Tropical, covering classes at the Bishopsgate Institute and Abbey Bar in the City of London. Maria has a wealth of experience spanning several decades in dance and in particular Latin dance. www.salsa-tropical.com

I teach cross body style salsa, which is a fusion of New York, Cuban and L.A. style Salsa, learnt from many of the renowned teachers mentioned above and the many other workshops and classes that I have attended over the years including Robert and Jean White of Mambo City www.mambocity.co.uk

I have taught regularly at the following venues over the last 5 years:-

An event called Spanish Harlem - previously at the Apt Bar and Agenda Bar, but now currently at the Digress Bar (all are based in the City of London).
This event occurs the first Saturday in every month and features a salsa taster lesson and as been running since August 2004.
Organised and run by Progressive Entertainment see link http://www.ukfridays.com/Events

Charlie Brown (Now called N22) in Wood Green - Weekly (Since June 2005 to June 2008)
Blue Ice in Ilford - Every six weeks (Since October 2005 to October 2006)
Royal Oak in Loughton - Weekly (Since April 20th 2006 to April 2007)
Players in- East Ham - Weekly - (April 2003 to Nov 2005)
Oceans Music Venue in Hackney - Weekly - (Feb 2004 to December 2005)
Enfield Grammar School - Enfield - Weekly - (May 2005 to October 2005)

I have also facilitated one off and repeat salsa classes for several Parent Teacher Association events. I have assisted in corporate event in and around London and provide freelance salsa teaching for other salsa promoters.
