Sophie's Salsa CVSophie Ferris has been dancing since she could walk. After an early start to ballet, Sophie trained for several years in Latin American and Ballroom dance. After discovering a Latin Bar in Melbourne one night with a friend, Sophie fell in love with the music and dance of Salsa, and soon began to focus on this in her own training. As well as dance experience, Sophie also holds a Bachelor degree in Physiotherapy and she is a Certified Pilates Instructor (APPI). Sophie has performed with various dance teams in Melbourne, Australia and competed in Latin American dance in Australia, including at the Australian Dance Sport Championships. Although Sophie had taught Salsa in the past in Melbourne, on arrival to London Sophie decided to formally train as a Salsa instructor and chose to complete Maria Palmieri's (Director of Salsa Tropical) certification. Sophie has been helping out at Maria's classes over the last few months and now will teach the beginner class at APT bar on Monday nights. As well as teaching Salsa, Sophie takes her own dancing seriously and continues to train as a dancer as well as a teacher. Because Sophie also has years of experience in movement analysis through Physiotherapy and Pilates she is able to help you learn steps and movement through observation of your dancing, giving you feedback as to what you specifically need to do to achieve the steps and movement of dance. Sophie is very experienced as a group exercise teacher especially with teaching beginners and applies these skills to her Salsa classes. |
